Announcement - .LA Domains Available For Donation

As a follow-up to our previous announcement on July 20th, we've started the process of identifying .LA domains that we would like to donate to the City of Los Angeles, universities, communities, and the entertainment industry. Announcement - GoDaddy Embraces .LA

Recently, GoDaddy announced that it has started selling .LA domains. Those of us that know GoDaddy well understand that this is a very welcome change. Not only is GoDaddy selling .LA domains, but, it is also advertising this effort via billboards throughout LA. Up to this point in time, advertising of .LA was essentially non-existent. Therefore, we very much welcome having a multi-billion dollar revenue company backing .LA with this kind of vision.

We've often wondered why Google has chosen to use Google.LA for Laos when this space is clearly being marketed and used for the LA Metropolitan Area. One thought that came to our mind is the concern of city TLDs becoming the mainstream and with it a redirection of ad dollars going to city coffers.
